I've had my hands full lately, plus limited internet access, so I haven't been able to check in here in a while. We've been working on projects at our new house and are hopefully going to be soon finishing up a few that we wanted to get done before moving in. By "we" I mean me because MH has been gone for almost a month. Now to pick paint colors for the bedrooms before we move the bedroom furniture.
I'll do my best to keep up with this check-in, but anyone should feel free to start it if I am not getting to it. Not sure when I will be back to having regular internet access. I wasn't expecting to be impacted this much, so sorry for not giving a heads up before.
Even though you have not posted the self care post, I have not forgotten to take care of myself.
Last week: I have managed to exercise on the treadmill twice.
Last Sunday, DH wanted to celebrate Mother's Day early for his mom and I. He took us to Whataburger for lunch. The mother's day with MIL was not that much fun because DS wanted to sit with me at lunch at Whataburger instead of with MIL and DH didn't let DS sit with me. DS wanted to hold my hand instead of MIL and DH would not let DS hold my hand and made him hold MIL's hand.
MIL took us shopping and got me 2 Mother's Day shirts! I picked a nice turquoise shirt for work and DS picked this cat shirt where there were 4 cats that had laser eyes. I tried the shirts on while DH and DS were waiting outside of the dressing room. I came out in the work shirt and DH and DS said "I looked pretty." Then I came out with the cat shirt and DS was like "Mommy, you look so, so, so pretty." I did not have the heart to put the cat shirt back.
I took 3 days off from work. It was much needed. DH and I wanted to spend time before he left to work out of state. We went out to eat at Buffalo Wild Wings and watched Guardians of the Galaxy 2. We did all errands we needed to do to get DH ready.
DH left Saturday morning.
This week: I had the best Mother's Day do-over.
I opened all the gifts DS made at school and at daycare. I had 2 cards, a paper weight mom rock, a painted "J", a framed picture of DS and a drawn cat picture of our cat (the daycare teacher told all the kids to draw a picture of their moms and DS had to be different and drew our cat instead).
DH called me to wish me a Happy Mother's Day and video called to see what DS got me.
My parents sent me a package with lotion, chapstick, hand sanitizer, an apron, earrings and a bag my mom made out of plastic canvas. I felt bad I didn't get my mom and MIL anything for mother's day. My mind has been pretty occupied lately with DH leaving and what DH and I need to do to make the best for us as a family. DH and I were trying to make it to my mom's graduation which was this past Saturday and it seemed it did not work out because we had no money to make the trip.
DS and I made salt crystals and we hit a pinata DS made awhile back. We went to McDonald's for dinner.
DS will be going on a field trip to tomorrow to go horseback riding and I hope I can go.
I plan to exercise at least twice on the treadmill. I already worked out yesterday on the treadmill.
I want to set out to be a better cook. I started okay on Saturday make lemon pepper tacos for DS and I. And today I made salsa chicken in a slow cooker. Wish me luck because DH is a better cook than I am!
I've been trying to spend more time unplugging and more time in nature. I did that several times this past week.
DH is usually off on Fridays so yesterday we took some time for a long walk through a beautiful park and then had a lunch date.
Yesterday evening the four of us had some nice family time. We've also finally started doing 1:1 dates with the boys once a month (we trade off each month who we have) and are planning to do those this afternoon. I get Oliver this month.
Don't forget to take care of you when you have the chance.
Thanks! I've definitely not been a role model of self care lately, but I have slightly more internet access now that it has been switched to the new place, so hopefully I can check in now and then when I actually do take a short break.
